A safe and permanently watertight solution
📍 Zeche Zollverein, coal mine, Essen
Following a cable fire in a technical room at the Zollverein Coal Mine, a safe and permanently watertight solution had to be implemented for both the existing and new cable routing.
Following the cable fire, numerous cable lines had to be replaced. At the same time, previous issues with water intrusion had to be resolved as part of the rehabilitation. The existing and new cables were to be routed together in a single system without disconnecting the cables and without restricting the operation of the coal mine.
✅ Solution with KRASO
💡 The result
A secure, retrofit sealing solution for existing and new lines, permanently tight and without disrupting ongoing operations.

🔧 Initial situation
Following the cable fire, numerous cable lines had to be replaced. At the same time, previous issues with water intrusion had to be resolved as part of the rehabilitation. The existing and new cables were to be routed together in a single system without disconnecting the cables and without restricting the operation of the coal mine.
✅ Solution with KRASO
The KRASO Plastic Flange Plate Type KFP and the KRASO Sealing Inserts Type SD 60 were used. The split plastic flange plate makes it possible to retrofit a sealing in front of the wall without having to disconnect existing cables. The sealing inserts were custom-made to match the existing outer diameters and installed on site. This enabled all lines to be sealed to be gas- and water pressure tight up to 5 bar.

A secure, retrofit sealing solution for existing and new lines, permanently tight and without disrupting ongoing operations.
