Terms, abbreviations & background knowledge

Water with a hydrostatic pressure on buildings and their sealing is also called "pressing water". The pressure results from ground or slope water and from impounded or aquiferous soil layers. "Non pressing water", in the contrary, has no or just minimal hydrostatic pressure, as in e.g. seepage water.

Norms and conditions according pressing or non pressing water are to be found in the so-called WU guidelines (WU = waterproof) by the DAfStb (German Committee for Reinforced Concrete) and in DIN 18195 or now DIN 18533.
Depending on their location buildings or components are sometimes confronted with so-called pressing water. Generally affected areas are basements and base plates which are attacked by hydrostatic pressure in the form of ground or slope water. Components must be sealed accordingly. Being proof against pressurised water involves a theoretical value that is specified by the unit "bar" and provides information as to up to what pressure a component remains watertight. In the case of a so-called water column with a height of 10 metres this produces a pressure of 1 bar. For a height of 25 metres the corresponding 2,5 bar, for 35 metres 3,5 bar and so on.
WU is a German term for waterproof. So-called waterproof concrete does not allow a water penetration depth over 50 mm. An additional sealing layer is not necessary, when using waterproof (WU) concrete in ground water.
"White tank" is the name for a component made of concrete that is impermeable to water. Here the concrete has both a static structural and a sealing function. Additional sealing measures such as area sealing are not required here, hence the name "white tank", because the white concrete is directly visible.
"Black tank" is the name for a component of concrete or masonry that is watertight. Here the waterproofing is provided by area sealing, which as a rule is applied outside. The colour of the sealing sheets or coatings is black due to the bituminous material that is frequently used.
Triple walls are walls made of precast elements. These elements are made of two precast concrete plates which are connected by lattice girders. After their placement they are concreted.
Construction joints originate due to timely separated concreting steps. Construction joints have to be constructed in a way that covers all possible demands and secures an effectual compound of the concrete layers. The expansion or so-called movement joint is a gap between separate components and is used to avoid stress cracks which might otherwise result from different material properties of the building material e.g. due to heat, moisture or pressure differences.
Non-corrosive stainless is made with an especially high amount of chrome that produces a kind of protective layer ("chromium oxide") which protects the steel from corrosion and acid. V2A is the classification of non-corrosive stainless steel that derives from the time it was developed: melting experiments called 2 austenite. During experiments with chrome, nickel and heat in 1912 it was found out that this combination shows the best results in regard to protection from corrosion as well as usability.
Electrogalvanising is a procedure where stainless steel gets an only a few micrometres thick (µm) zinc layer that protects from corrosion. The additional chromate coating is used as further protection and the reason for the typical yellow colouring. In comparison to non-corrosive stainless steel the danger of corrosion is higher when using electrogalvanised steel, especially when the zinc layer gets damaged on the construction site.
In regard to sewage pipes (KG pipes) the term "solid wall material" means quality: solid wall pipes are made of rigid PVC-U - polyvinyl chloride - and being produced without any internal foamed material they are more solid and functional in regard to the handling. They are shock-resistant and dimensionally stable, have a low abrasion and are easy to install at low temperatures.
KG 2000 is the term for a system of sewage pipes made of polypropylene (PP), mostly coloured in green. The solid wall material is even more shock-resistant, has a highly chemical resistance and is environmentally compatible.
Sewage containing faeces from lavatories is also called "black water". For this special pumping systems are necessary when the sewage comes from beneath the canal.
Greywater is sewage without faeces, just slightly polluted wastewater like the one emerging from showering, bathing or washing your hands.
ABP stands for German "Allgemeines Bauaufsichtliches Prüfzeugnis" and means general construction supervisions test certificate. It serves as a proof of usability for products that become certified by generally recognised test methods and are not subject to any special requirements for the security of structural installations.
MPA stands for a German material testing institute. These are independent, mostly state-approved institutes which are often connected to universities and technical schools. They are responsible for the testing of building- and raw materials.
The fire-resistance class shows in how far building materials and elements are fire resistant according to DIN standards. It consists of the letter "F" and the duration in minutes of the functionional integrity in the event of a fire. The fire-resistance class F 180 therefore means "highly fire resistant" functional integrity.
"High-quality in terms of TA-Air" refers to an administrative regulation of the Federal Emmission Act ("Technical Instructions on Air Quality Control - TA-Air) and indicates whether a component is gas- and odour-tight.
Radon is a naturally occurring, radioactive noble gas formed in the ground by decay of uranium. A concentration of the colour- and odourless gas in leaking basements is possible by soil air transfer. A concentration of over 100 bq/m3 (bq = Becquerel, unit for radioactivity) is harmful to health: according to the WHO radon is the second leading cause for lung cancer after smoking. Mountain regions are particularly affected areas, in Germany e.g. the Black Forest, Bavarian Forest and the Alpine region.

KRASO Products like sealing inserts and pipe penetrations with KRASO 4 Seal are MPA-tested and high-quality in terms of TA-Air. For the test procedure the harmless helium is used, the lightest of the noble gases. KRASO Sealing Inserts or KRASO Pipe Penetrations that have been tested gas-tight are therefore also tight against the heavier radon and protect your building against the radioactive gas.

Products & installation

No! We offer plenty products that are suitable for both new buildings and rehabilitation. Many products are even especially designed for rehabilitation projects as for example the KRASO Foil Clamping Flange Type FKF – split -. You can identify the usability by our "New Building" or "Rehabilitation" button.
Yes, we offer plenty of accessories: pump sump covers, accessories for drains, for installation and many more. You find the links to suitable accessories on each product page.
Yes, we can adjust the type of sealing sheets, e.g. PVC, EPDM, FPO, RESITRIX®, PP, PE, KRASO®-Fol, PYE-PV 200 S5 etc.
Yes, the sealing sheets or foils can be adjusted, e.g. PVC, EPDM, FPO, RESITRIX®, PP, PE, KRASO®-Fol, PYE-PV 200 S5 etc.
You always receive a suitable arrangement template with our multiple and special sealing inserts, so you can see at a glance the arrangement of media lines, pipes and cables.
Yes, in this case we recommend our KRASO Replaceable Sealing Insert. The blind insert can be removed retroactively and we can adjust it according your requirements.
KRASO Sealing Inserts can be installed directly into the core hole, if it is a waterproof concrete wall. We recommend our KRASO Foil Clamping Flange Type FKF for walls made of e.g. sand-lime brick.
For the sealing of corrugated and ribbed media pipes we recommend the KRASO Sealing Insert Type GR (DD = 40 mm seal / VD = 80 mm seal). With central pressure distribution plate for a reliable and careful sealing.
Yes, the KRASO Cable Penetration KDS 150 is compatible with all other current systems. KRASO also offers you an extensive range of accessories like e.g. system cover with hose adapter, shrink hoses and many more. We are looking forward to your request!
No, all openings are made with our waterjet cutting machine. Drilling does not work and the sealing insert may become unusable.
For the production we need the exact external diameter of the media line in millimetres. You should measure the diameter with a calliper.
Each sealing insert's tolerance range for different core hole diameters can be found in our table of sizes. You can find them either on the sealing insert's product page on our website or in our latest catalogue.
